Back pain coaching for active adults You're not broken.
Your plan is.

"Rest it, ice it, and be careful" is not a training plan. It's a holding pattern — and it's why you've been stuck in the same loop for months. Back Relief Now is custom back-strength coaching for active adults who have no intention of quitting the barbell, the tee box, or the trailhead.

Sound familiar?

You've been managed. You've never been coached.

Most active adults with back pain have already done the rounds. What they've never had is a coach with real expertise who owns the program and builds forward instead of telling them to back off and see how it goes.

Rest didn't fix it. It paused it.

Time off calms things down. It doesn't build the capacity that keeps pain away the second you pick the weight back up.

Every ramp-up bites back.

Two good weeks, then a flare. That's usually not a spine failing. That's a ramp that moved faster than your tissue was ready for.

Three opinions. Three answers.

Adjust it. Stretch it. Stop lifting. When nobody agrees, you end up as the project manager of your own back.

What we believe

Three things that change how this goes

You are more than a scan.

Plenty of people with findings on a report are out lifting and golfing without a second thought. We train what you can do today and build toward what you want to do next.

Strength is built, not avoided.

Backs adapt to demand like every other tissue in the body. Avoiding load indefinitely doesn't protect you. It shrinks the range of things you can do without a flare.

"Be careful forever" isn't a goal anyone wants.

You didn't come here to sit on the sidelines. You came here to get back under the bar, through 18 holes, and up the trail — and to stop negotiating with your own back every morning.

How it works

Four segments. One plan that stacks.

  1. Segment one

Start with what you're trying to get back to

Not a pain scale. Your sport, your history, your goal. The free 2-minute assessment gets us most of the way there before we ever get on a call.

  2. Segment two

Get a plan written for your sport

A golfer's rotation demands and a deadlifter's bracing demands are not the same problem. Your program is built for the thing you actually want back.

  3. Segment three

Load it back up on a ramp you can trust

Progression is the whole game. You get the rules: when to push, when to hold, what a normal day-after feels like, and what an actual setback looks like.

  4. Segment four

Keep it — with a coaching team in your corner

Regular check-ins and program adjustments as you progress, so you keep what you built instead of drifting back to square one.

The 12-week roadmap

Three phases. Twelve weeks. Back to what you love.

Twelve weeks gives strength time to actually build, then gives you time to put it to work in your sport. Every phase is customized to you, and your coaching team adjusts the pace at each check-in.

  1. Weeks 1–3

    Phase 1

    Reset

Settle things down and set your baseline. Movement you can trust, mobility work, and the core bracing fundamentals everything else is built on.

    • Movement baseline and starting loads
    • Mobility built into every session
    • Core bracing fundamentals
  2. Weeks 4–7

    Phase 2

    Build

Progressive loading on a ramp you can trust. Hip and glute strength and the foundational trunk strength your sport demands.

    • Progressive overload with clear push/hold rules
    • Hip and glute strength
    • Foundational trunk strength
  3. Weeks 8–12

    Phase 3

    Return

Put it back into the activity you came for — under the bar, on the course, or up the trail — and leave ready to keep training on your own.

    • Sport-specific training
    • Lifting mechanics under real load
    • A plan to keep training independently

Phase timing flexes to your progress. This is a fitness program, not medical treatment, and individual results vary.

About Back Relief Now

We got tired of watching strong people be told to stop.

Back Relief Now is a custom fitness coaching program for active adults dealing with back pain — lifters, golfers, hikers, parents who still carry their own kids — built by a doctor of physical therapy and a physician.

Why we built it

Too many active adults with back pain end up with generic advice: rest, be careful, maybe stop lifting. What most of them actually want is a smart, progressive training plan that gets them back to squatting, swinging, or carrying a pack up a mountain.

Generic gym programs don't account for a back that's been giving you trouble. Cautious advice doesn't get you strong. There's a gap between the two, and that's where most people get stuck.

We're a married couple who've spent our careers around the body. We built the coaching program we kept wishing existed for the people around us.

How we work

We start with what you want back. Then we build a custom training program that progressively builds strength toward that goal, with clear rules for when to push and when to hold, and adjust it as you go.

We're direct about what we are and aren't. This is fitness coaching, not physical therapy or medical care. We don't diagnose or treat anyone, we don't promise a cure, and we don't take people looking for a passive fix. If you need medical care, we'll tell you to see your own doctor. If you're willing to do the work, we're a good fit.

Who we're for

  • Lifters who've been told to stop deadlifting and don't accept that as a plan
  • Golfers losing rotation, distance, or the back nine
  • Runners, hikers, and people who want the trail back
  • Parents and workers who just want a normal day without negotiating with their back

Everyone starts with the same free assessment. What follows depends on what you're trying to get back to and what's actually in the way.

The 2-Minute Assessment

Strategy Call

A real conversation with our team about your goals, your training history, and what's realistic. We'll tell you plainly whether we're the right fit — including when the answer is no.

The 12-Week Custom Training Program

A progressive program built for your sport, not a printout. Clear progression rules, modifications for tough days, and adjustments as you ramp. This is the core of what we do.

Coaching Check-ins

Included

Regular check-ins with our coaching team to review your progress and update your program, so it keeps pace with you instead of going stale after a few weeks.

What we don't do

This is fitness coaching, not physical therapy or medical care. We don't diagnose, treat, or cure any condition, and we don't guarantee outcomes. We don't take people looking for something passive done to them. If your situation calls for medical care, we will tell you to see your own doctor instead of selling you a program.

FAQ

Straight answers

What is Back Relief Now?

Back Relief Now is a custom fitness coaching program for active adults who deal with back pain and want to keep training. Programs are designed with the expertise of a doctor of physical therapy and a physician, and each one is built around the activity you want back, whether that's lifting, golf, hiking, or a normal day.

Is Back Relief Now physical therapy or medical care?

No. Back Relief Now is fitness coaching, not physical therapy or medical care. We don't diagnose or treat any condition, and working with us doesn't create a provider–patient relationship. If your situation calls for medical care, we'll tell you to see your own doctor instead of selling you a program.

Who is the program for?

Active adults with back pain who want to keep doing what they love: lifters who've been told to stop deadlifting, golfers losing rotation or distance, runners and hikers who want the trail back, and parents and workers who want a normal day. It isn't for people looking for a passive fix.

Do I have to stop lifting, golfing, or hiking?

Our approach is built around keeping you active, not sidelining you. Your program builds strength progressively toward the activity you want back, with clear rules for when to push and when to hold. Individual results vary, and if anything suggests you need a medical evaluation first, we'll tell you.

How long is the program?

The core program runs 12 weeks. It includes a custom training program written for your activity and regular check-ins where our team reviews your progress and adjusts the plan as you ramp up.

What happens during the 12 weeks?

The program runs in three phases. Weeks 1–3 (Reset) set your baseline with mobility work and core bracing fundamentals. Weeks 4–7 (Build) add progressive loading, hip and glute strength, and foundational trunk strength. Weeks 8–12 (Return) bring that strength into your sport, including lifting mechanics, and prepare you to keep training on your own. Timing flexes to your progress.

Is the coaching one-on-one?

No. You get a program written for you and a coaching team that reviews your progress and adjusts it at regular check-ins, rather than live one-on-one training sessions.

Is the program online?

Yes. The assessment, the strategy call, the check-ins, and the program itself are all delivered remotely, so you train at your own gym, course, or trail.

How does the free assessment work?

It's five questions about your activity, your history, and your goal, and it takes about two minutes. There are no pain scales or intake forms. If it looks like we can help, you can book a call with our team directly from the assessment.

When should I see a doctor instead?

Get medical care right away if back pain comes with loss of bowel or bladder control, numbness in the groin or inner thighs, progressive leg weakness, unexplained weight loss, fever, or a recent significant injury. For a medical emergency, call 911.
